i wouldnt necessary call the dub uneven.
sure its not the best release from aniplex after bringing out superb dubs like mahou shoujo madoka magica and fate/zero , but its definitely passable and the main leads sound fine.
definitely should have a rating of at least a B minimum & not B-

I think the dub sounds fine, personally. It hasn't lost any quality from the previous season.

"Dumb ass" is still commonly used as an insult... seems like a weird thing to nitpick. Mah-gee does sound odd but I just see it as the way they say in in-world since they consistently use it that way.

It's not that they used it as an insult that's the problem, it's how it was pronounced. When used as an insult it's generally said "dumbass," with the two words spoken as a single compound word. In the show it was pronounced as two words, which tends to have a different meaning.

Right, you just repeated exactly what was in the article. It what way would "dumb ass" be differently used than "dumbass" though? The first sounds more like something they'd actually use considering the setting and the second is more of a modern slang version of... the same exact thing.

Completely disagree on pirates arc: it is was the worst of all series as authors have made things blatantly stupid for those events to happen. If not this part, "Story" aspect of the rating would deserves better than "B-" -- maybe "A-" even.
If we forget the pirates arc, this project is actually my dream anime, I could watch such things forever, I am always starving for magic, unique character spells and fighting abilities (and, if possible, not so-trivial, black or white storylines, as in this case).

Gotta agree with MaxSouth; the stuff with the pirates felt like filler, right down to the set up ("an adventure we're unwillingly dragged to while on the way to our actual goal" -- Yu-Gi-Oh! filler, One Piece filler...). It's only tangentially connected to Magnostadt (as revealed in the second half) and it just...'feels' tacked on. I did like the way it ended, mind you, but the way it progressed was pretty weak.
I loved Aladdin's stuff on the school of magic, though! I think he out of everyone else really needed some downgrading, someone telling him that he needed to actually work hard and struggle a bit for what he wanted. Plus it was just generally fun. I think it was a lot more enjoyable than Alibaba's coliseum two-parter and Morgianna's solo journey (that one was enjoyable, but its payoff takes forever to come up so it was kind of disappointing overall).
Also I can't understate how much I love Aladdin's and Titus's magic duel in episode 13. It's so dynamic, so full of energy and scale, so wonderfully timed. Made me wish these people tried their hands on other shounen, like DBZ. A highlight of this first half, no doubt.
As for the dub, something to note about the Kingdom cast is that there are a lot of (/anime) newcomers/underused actors on board, though most of them won't get to shine until the second half, and they do a great job for the most part IMO. And while most people consider Ryuko to be Erica Mendez's best role, her Aladdin is still my favorite; it's just full of heart, even with. The occasional random. Pauses.

I didn't like this one as much as the first season. I've always found Aladdin the least interesting of the main characters so the focus on him at the expense of the others was a pretty big detriment for me. Magi's at it's best when the cast is together since they complement each other well and keeping them separated this long makes it kind of drag. I spent most of the season just waiting for Alibabba an Morgiana to come back.

Actually, Aladdin was less of a main subject in the second season, so you have to like it more than less.
But I agree that at times he is very annoying and whiny.

It seemed like he was. He was the only one from the main cast to appear in most of it.
