Hindu U.S. Statesman Objects to Depiction of Deities in Manga
posted on by Adriana Hazra
The President of the Universal Society of Hinduism Rajan Zed made a statement on Monday criticising the depiction of Hindu deities in manga. The U.S. statesman addressed Coamix and urged the company "not to trivialize Lord Shiva and other highly revered Hindu gods and goddesses in its manga publications."
Shinya Umemura, Chika Aji, and Takumi Fukui's Shūmatsu no Walküre (Record of Ragnarok) manga launched in the Comic Zenon magazine in November 2017 and depicts a character based on Hindu deity Lord Shiva as well as characters based on other figures from Hindu mythology, Greek mythology, the Bible, and Japanese history.
Rajan Zed has previously released statements regarding the depiction of the Hindu deity Krishna in Sega's Shin Megami Tensei IV: Final role-playing video game, the character "Apocalypse" in the X-Men: Apocalypse film, and the depiction of the goddess Kali in the Smite multiplayer online battle arena game.
