Man Admits Guilt for Releasing Cockroaches at Animelo Summer Live
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
Summer concert goers got some unexpected guests last August when a chef from Osaka released dozens of cockroaches on the unsuspecting crowd. The scene was Animelo Summer Live, a huge, annual anisong festival that takes over the Saitama Super Arena. 33-year-old Kazuyuki Kawatani from Higashi, Osaka was spotted by audience members releasing the roaches from his hands while dancing to the music. The bugs were “red roaches,” a type that cannot fly but nonetheless disturbed onlookers.
Details, like Kawatani's motivation or how he managed to smuggle dozens of insects into the venue, are unknown. He admitted guilt to authorities.
Kawatani's introduction of insects into a concert venue isn't unique, but at least when Shokotan does it, it's a planned part of the show.
