posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
Fist of the Blue Sky Re:Genesis manga artist Hideki Tsuji took a break from drawing muscular martial artists to create a collaborative illustration for the horror-thriller film Downrange.
The 2017 film was written and directed by Ryūhei Kitamura, the same man behind the live-action Lupin the 3rd film released in 2014 and the Godzilla: Final Wars film. Tarō Maki, a frequent anime film and television show producer, produced Downrange.
The story follows a group of friends who become stranded after blowing out a tire. While attempting to track down help, they begin getting picked off one by one by a mysterious sniper.
The film opened at various film festivals worldwide last year. A limited screening will take place in Shinjuku starting on September 15 followed by a screenings in Osaka starting on September 22.
Tsuji draws the artwork for the Fist of the Blue Sky Re:Genesis manga with writer Hiroyuki Yatsu (Hammer Play!). The manga launched last October as a sequel to Buronson, Nobuhiko Horie, and Tetsuo Hara's Fist of the Blue Sky manga. The two season 3DCG anime series Fist of the Blue Sky Re:Genesis is based on Yatsu and Tsuji's manga series. The anime's second season will premiere on October 1. Crunchyroll streamed the first season as it aired in Japan.
