Monogatari Series Gets Smartphone Game App
posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Kodansha and Aniplex announced on Thursday that the Monogatari Series of novels by NisiOisin is getting a smartphone game adaptation. The companies also opened a website for the game, which contains a visual of the series character Hitagi Senjōgahara drawn by Monogatari Series anime character designer Akio Watanabe.
A commercial and more information for the game will air on Tokyo MX and on the AbemaTV streaming service on August 12 and 13 during the premiere of the Owarimonogatari Second Season two-day anime special.
The novel series centers on Koyomi Araragi, a loner and failing student. One day, his classmate Hitagi Senjōgahara falls into his arms accidentally, and he discovers that Hitagi literally weighs nothing. According to her, she has had this problem since the first year of high school. After Koyomi helps out with her supernatural problem, Koyomi then meets other girls who are all troubled by some manner of supernatural "oddity."
The novel series began with Bakemonogatari in 2006. The novel series' "final season" ended with Zoku Owarimonogatari in September 2015, but it featured a teaser for "Monogatari Series, Next Season Tsugimonogatari." Four "Off Season" novels — Orokamonogatari, Wazamonogatari, Nademonogatari, and Musubimonogatari — shipped in October 2015, January 2016, July 2016, and on January 12, respectively.
Shinobumonogatari, the latest novel in the series, shipped on July 15.
Vertical published the earlier Kizumonogatari novel in December 2015, and began publishing the original Mongatari Series novels beginning in December 2016 with the Bakemonogatari novels.
Aniplex of America is releasing the anime adaptations of the Monogatari Series in North America. The Owarimonogatari Second Season anime special, the most recent anime in the franchise, tackles the third Owarimonogatari novel.
