AFA Singapore Physical Event Canceled, Online Event Scheduled for December
posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Sozo Pte. Ltd., the organizer of the Anime Festival Asia conventions, announced on Monday that it has canceled the physical event for this year's AFA Singapore event, but it will hold an online event on December 5 and 6. Sozo canceled the event due to "ongoing travel and regulatory restrictions for large scale events" brought about by the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
The online event will still include guest appareances.
Sozo Pte. Ltd. previously held the AFA United streaming events in April, also due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The company also held another online event titled AFA Station on August 29, and on September 5 and 6.
The Anime Festival Asia conventions take place in Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, and Japan. The event is one of the largest anime and Japanese pop-culture conventions outside Japan. 2015's Anime Festival Asia in Singapore drew 90,669 visitors. Aside from Anime Festival Asia and its attached I Love Anisong label, Sozo also owns JLive Asia, and organizes the Japan Music Festival brand.
